Feed the Pig
I just found out about this site called Feed the Pig. Funny name, huh? It encourages young adults to take small steps toward building a solid financial future… to feed their own personal piggy bank. The site provides tons of easy tips for building savings, fun tools, a quiz, and other resources.

Now let’s talk about the facts. According to a study commissioned by the AICPA – for every dollar of assets owned by 25-34 years old in the United States, they are carrying 70 cents worth of debt. Calculating just how much debt I have would give me a headache, but I’m certain I could be included in that statistic.
On Feed the Pig you’ll meet “spokespig” Benjamin Bankes who urges these young adults (like me!) to spend within or below their means. The website provides interactive tools to help young adults proactively change their spending habits and measure the impact of current habits on future savings. These tools provide young adults with a reality check while empowering them to take simple actions to change their behaviors regarding money to start saving today.
To spread the word, Feed the Pig is giving two of my readers a fun prize pack that includes a Piggy Bank, Stress Ball, Key Chain, and a Weepul (a fuzzy little toy).

I like the “watch the interest rates on your credit cards” tip. This could definitely eat up extra money if the rates are raised and you don’t know it. Thanks for the chance.
Great. I took the 5 challenge and now I feel worse than ever, lol.
but seriously though…this is an interesting and helpful site. Everyone should visit there!

One phrase I kept hearing was small bucks today, big bucks tomorrow. I’m not stupid I don’t waste my money on the lottery. A friend played every week and played the same numbers, one weeks she said she just didn’t have the money to play. Sure nuff he numbers won but she didn’t play. She went right back playing again the next week, throwing that money away. Once in a life time, baby, needless to say she died broke and having to do with out a lot of tihings she needed at the end, If she had saved that $10.00 week she spent on tickets for years she would have enjoyed her retirement years, instead she was misable. Do like the add says save that $10 bucks a week and have big bucks tomorrow.
I subscribe and want the extra entry. Thanks for letting me enter,
I like this one; •Make a budget and review it regularly. In order to develop your budget, keep all of your receipts for a month or two. That way you can get a realistic sense of where you are in your current spending.

This is one tip I’m trying to work on, as I love to buy bottles of pop for myself,
Buy in bulk. Then take sodas and water to work or school, avoiding vending machine prices.
I’m getting there!

One tip I found useful was…Never buy clothes at retail price! If you see a “must have” in the store, note the label and style number, you can often find it cheaper online.

I found the tip of saving the receipts when eating out. It is just my son and I and he always wants to eat out. I explain we don’t have the money but he doesn’t understand that. I think if I keep the receipts for a month then I can SHOW him how much we spend out.

The tip I think we will try is call other cable companies to check if their prices are lower. If they are we should call our current cable company and let them know we are thinking of switching. There are times they will reduce their rate to keep you as a customer. Thank you!
