Do you have mold in your home? Most likely, yes! Pretty much 100% of homes have mold. This doesn’t mean you don’t have a clean house, however! Mold can grow anywhere, and spreads fast, in as little as 48 hours! All it needs is an organic food source and moisture.
In our home, our biggest mold problem is in the bathroom. I can never seem to get rid of it for long! I might see black stains on the grout, or perhaps orangy-red stains on our shower curtain. We make sure to use the exhaust fan during (and after) baths and showers, and leave the door open to let the bathroom dry out. If the girls have an especially ‘splashy’ bath, sometimes I’ll go in after with a towel and dry things off, if time permits. I also frequently check the roof, windows, and pipes for leaks. You never know! Beyond the bathroom, mold is frequently found on window sills, refrigerator seals, under the kitchen sink, air registers and entryways. Places you wouldn’t always think to look! I’ve heard that there’s a special paint that has an EPA-approved mold inhibitor, but have never tried it. I wonder if it would help.
Places that are always damp, like the bathroom, can be hard to keep free of mold. Basic bathroom cleaners might remove some of the stains that mold leaves behind, but won’t kill it. This is why I like to use a bleach-based product like Tilex® Mold and Mildew Remover to effectively kill mold and mildew.
