giveaway rules update {please read}

Those of you that enter giveaways often may have noticed that I (and many other bloggers) have taken away the option to gain an extra entry by becoming a fan and sharing links on Facebook.

This isn’t because I don’t love my fans – because I do!

It’s due to stringent new promotions guidelines that Facebook implemented in November. You can continue to share my giveaways with your friends and family on Facebook, but I can’t require you to do so as an entry into a giveaway. I also can’t require you to become a fan, but if you’d like to anyway, I appreciate it!

I’ve tried to make entering my giveaways as easy as possible. I always ask that you leave a comment to enter, after visiting the sponsor’s website, and offer 3-4 extra credit entries, depending on the value of the prize and the sponsor’s requests. The extra entries are:

  • Subscribe to my feed by feed reader or email.
  • Follow me on Twitter (@OhMariana) and tweet about the giveaway.
  • Grab my button (at the bottom of the page) and link to me in your sidebar or blog roll.
  • Sometimes I’ll also add “Blog about this giveaway,” but not always, as all those random incoming links aren’t good for my PageRank.

I’d love some feedback. Does this all sound reasonable to you? Do you want more extra credit entries? Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond!

On a side note, I hate to get negative, but…

PLEASE DON’T CHEAT.

<rant> It’s not fair for those people that actually follow the rules and are long-term readers/subscribers! It’s also a waste of my time. When I see one comment after the other from the same IP address at 10:19, 10:20, etc. I tend to get suspicious. Especially if a different name and email address is used EVERY time! Not to mention the fact that the comments are almost identical. I’m all about sharing with family and friends, but I’m not stupid. I’ve decided to implement a “one person per household may enter” rule to hopefully avoid this issue (and the excuses that I get when I confront someone about it).

I won’t delete these dubious comments, but I will ignore them. Do this repeatedly and I’ll have to block you.

Also, please don’t make up entries. For instance, I don’t use Google Friend, so don’t leave a comment telling me you’re following me. Please. And Stumble my posts all you want, but it won’t give you extra credit (that’s against StumbleUpon policy). </rant>

Follow the rules. That’s all I ask! Thanks for reading and entering my giveaways! :)

Oh, and I’ve added a giveaway linky to my Weekly Roundup. It’ll go up every Sunday morning!

  1. I like your entry rules. Nice and simple. I don’t like it when there are five million different available entries that require jumping through lots of hoops.
.-= Emily E.´s last blog ..kebhouse: @LEprAmanda Can I vote for both? I guess these days I’d rather have one big present, but as a kid it was lots of little presents. #landsend =-.

  2. I’m an email subscriber.

  3. In the Olympics I’m anticipating the ice skating events. The skaters are so graceful and daring and the same time.

Thank you for the contest. Happy holidays.

  4. Please be sure to list the per person/household in the giveaway also.

Because my roommate and I both enter sweeps and other giveaways, I have a shared Google spreadsheet to track the different blog giveaways we enter. Sometimes, unless specified, we will enter the same ones, just like a regular sweeps.

Now here’s another goodie. Not applicable in this case, but I have also set my neighbor (we live in a duplex)up to share my internet connection. But, I have have let him know that if he ever gets into sweeping that he needs to check with before entering anything with household/IP restrictions because I have no desire to be disqualified.

  5. Thx for clarifying all of the rules! I am still fairly new to the giveaway thing and it can get confusing! LOL I love your Blog and I think the extra’s you have now on giveaway’s is cool- some do daily Twitters so maybe specify if Tweeting can be done daily or max entries to… like 5 based on all criteria (meaning no daily tweets) just once or something- Again, thx-

  6. I have an unusal situtation. Me, my granddaughter and daughter all have the same mailing address, but we live in different locations. My daughter lives where the mailbox is, her niece(my granddaughter rents her garage appartment, and I live down the road from them. I am disabled so someone from my granddaughters brings me my mail. My granddaughter goes to college out of state but uses her apt. as her mailing address because most of the mail she receives is business and my daughter takes care of it for her. But… I under-stand why you have rules. We try not to enter the same but I know that sometimes we may lap but not intentaly. My grand daughter only enters on weekins and occasionally my daughter enters. I am the speeper. My granddaughter uses my computer to enter so she can ask me if I have entered but sometimes I may not remember. I told you it was unuseual. But I promise we will TRY NOT to mess up.Best of luck it must be confusing for you triple! Merry Christmas Everyone and thanks for all you do.
