I have no plastic cups in my house. My husband and I only drink out of glass. Everyone now knows about the dangers of plastics – so why do we still let our children drink our of plastic sippy cups? Their little bodies are much more vulnerable to these toxins than we are!
I’m happy to say that I’ve found yet another safe sippy. And that just happens to be what it’s called – The Safe Sippy. It’s made by KidBasix. My baby’s been using it daily for a week now, and she (and I) both love it. Even her big sister wants one now, even though she grew out of the sippy stage long ago.
Every aspect of The Safe Sippy was carefully thought out. The food grade stainless steel container is clean and non-leaching. It is certified and tested free of BPA and phtalates, and any contact between liquid and plastic is kept to a minimum. The cap is made out of Polypropylene, #5 plastic, which is the most stable of all plastics and the no-spill valve is made of silicone, the same substance used in many medical applications. It really is no-spill! It hasn’t leaked at all.
The cup is enclosed in an easy-grip sleeve that serves several purposes – it keeps baby’s hands from getting too cold, prevents the cup from getting dented if dropped, stops it from slipping out of wet or sticky hands, and it’s bright and colorful. Kids are drawn to it. I didn’t find it hard to remove or to put back on after washing.
The Safe Sippy is made for ages 6 months and up, could easily be baby’s first sippy cup. It holds 11 ounces and is dishwasher safe. I’ve removed the handles from baby’s cup because I noticed she likes to carry it in the crook of her arm. The handles just got in the way of that, but would be perfect for a baby learning to drink from a sippy for the first time.
I’m excited about what KidBasix has in store!
