Little Scholastic book reviews

Scholastic is one of the most trusted names in learning! I remember my mom ordering Scholastic books for me when I was a child, and I just recently placed the first (of many) Scholastic book orders for my little Kindergartener.

Did you know that Scholastic also has a developmental publishing program geared towards the little ones? The Little Scholastic line of books introduces reading to babies and toddlers ages birth to three years. We’re basically out of the board book stage, but I read about these cute books by Little Scholastic and wanted to see them for myself!

AlphabetWe received two books for review: Alphabet and Peek-a-Zoo. Each book features rhyming, repetitive, or predictable text, interactive components, and familiar subjects – all formatted to delight babies, toddlers, and parents.

Alphabet encourages kids to sing the alphabet song with bold and bright letters and tactile illustrations. Maura recognizes all her letters, and knows the alphabet song by heart, and was so proud that she could ‘read’ the book all by herself! If you’re looking for fun gift ideas, Alphabet is small enough to toss into a stocking! Best for the baby to 2-year-old age range, this book retails for $4.99.

Peek-a-ZooPeek-a-Zoo was definitely my favorite of the two. It’s BIG and has a ton of different features that will surely make kids smile. It was actually inspired by a favorite children’s toy – the play center. There are many different textures to touch and compare, mirrors that you can actually see yourself in, lift-the-flap surprises, and much more. Maura loved peeking through the holes to guess what was on the next page. Best for the baby to 3-year-old age range, this book retails for $10.99 (but I just saw it at the Scholastic Store for $8.79. A steal!)

These two books live up to the quality I expect from Scholastic, and Maura enjoyed them both immensely. To learn more about Little Scholastic, please visit www.littlescholastic.com for expert advice and articles, parenting tips, and book information.
