Sex and the City 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Last week was a big week for Sex and the City fans! Both the Sex and the City 2 movie and Original Motion Picture Soundtrack were released! I haven’t had the opportunity to watch the movie yet, but I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for days, and love it. It’s so different, yet a lot of fun to listen to.

Some highlights from the album:

  • Features a brand-new duet “Love is Your Color” by Grammy and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, along with global superstar, multi-platinum recording artist and three-time Grammy Award nominee Leona Lewis.
  • Includes a new song by platinum-selling CeeLo, and International superstar Dido also contributes an exclusive new track.
  • Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony and Academy Award winner Liza Minnelli covers Beyonce’s chart-topper “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
  • 12-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys performs her own extraordinary new version of the Blondie classic “Rapture”.
  • Features the stars of Sex and the City 2, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, performing the Helen Reddy classic “I Am Woman.”

Dido’s “Everything to Lose” may be my favorite. I just love her voice! A handful of the tracks have a Middle Eastern feel, which makes sense considering the big trip the ladies go on. You’ll also recognize a few covers of classics (like Blondie’s “Rapture”) and more current songs, like Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind.” It’s impossible to not sing along to that!

I find a couple of the songs to be a little strange, which actually makes me want to see how they’re used in the movie. Liza Minnelli’s “Single Ladies,” for example. I could see it being a funny live performance, but I can’t really listen to it more than once. Let’s just say it didn’t make the cut when it came to transferring songs to my iPad!
