Weebles Musical Treehouse review
Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down!
You’ve probably seen the catchy commercial with the techno beat. I love it.
What…?
You haven’t seen it? Here you go. You can thank me later.
Now that I have you singing “Weebles wobble, wobble…” let me tell you about these little guys.
Weebles, in some shape or form, have been around for almost 30 years. Made by Playskool, these figures are shaped like eggs and have a weight at the bottom, so that if you push them over, they come right back up. While they have changed shape over the years, morphing into animals and such, I’m happy to say they’re back to their original egg form, which fits perfectly into little hands.
Weebles come in themed 2-packs – sports, music, or playtime – for around $5 for the pair. I think we have all of them because “you can never have enough weasels,” according to Maya. Yes, the girls call them weasels.
Each Weeble is bright and colorful with a cute little facial expression. Even with their unique shape, my girls both play with these figures as if they were any other doll. You’ll even see ‘em taking a ride in the Barbie convertible every now and again. They’ve been dropped and thrown around for months now, and show very little wear.
There are accessories and playsets to go along with the Weebles, including vehicles and buildings. The Weebles Musical Treehouse, for instance, is a huge hit with my kids. With lots of areas for the Weebles to play hide and seek, this whimsical playset has provided my girls with hours of fun, especially Maura. And may I remind you that she’s 3 years old! Every child that has seen the treehouse is immediately drawn to it. The bright colors and fun music help, yes, but it has more than that. Turning the handle on the colorful escalator brings the Weebles to the top of the slide and sends them spiraling down. Wheee! When the Weebles land, they are rewarded with fun music and sounds before wobbling off for another ride. Open the door at the base of the tree house to reveal a secret space inside the tree to hide a few figures. Have a dance party on the wobbly tree house deck or take a spin on top of the lookout post. See? So much to do! Maura loves the little carrying handle at the top. She can fit all 10 of her Weebles in the treehouse, and take it from room to room as she pleases. The playset is super sturdy, and while it does requires three “AA” batteries, I’ve found them to last a long time, perhaps because we often turn the sound off.
While the tree house is recommended for kids 18 months old and up, as it takes a little coordination to play with, the Weebles themselves would be fun for a younger child. You’d be surprised how entertaining it is for kids to just roll them around the floor! The treehouse playset comes with two Weebles (but you’ll want to get more, trust me!)
As far as other accessories go, we have a couple of Wobblin’ Go-Carts, each one complete with a sidecar for a second wobbly pal. Little ones can easily grasp the handle on the back of the go-cart and push their Weebles along, plus each comes with one Weebles figure!
BUY IT!
I’ve seen Weebles at many retailers – Target, Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart – and they’re available on Amazon.com and HasbroToyShop.com as well. At $5 for a pair, Weebles would make cute stocking stuffers! I’m going to search for the holiday themed ones this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and a cheerful elf and reindeer – adorable! The treehouse retails for $29.99 and the go-kart for $7.99. All reasonable prices for toys with so much play value!
